Slow Social Media | The Slow Work Series No. 2
Rethinking the role of social media from a Slow Work perspective.
Morning everyone.
Today in our second instalment of the Slow Work Series, we’re going to talk about the slow entrepreneurs greatest nemesis - Social Media.
As an aside - this post contains affiliate links (pretty sure we all know the drill by now). I only recommend products that I not only like, but actually use in my day-to-day.
The gurus tell us if we want to be in business - we have to be on social media, preferably all the things. But as a slow entrepreneur, social media is generally not aligned with my goals for either my business or my life.
At the core of it is the question -
How do we embrace the potential power of social media AND protect our slow life?
I wrote a bit about this on the Slow Folk blog.
The fact that it’s one of my most popular posts and the pin is consistently viewed over 30,000 times a month, gives you a hint as to how many people are struggling with this.
Here’s an excerpt:
I run a business that wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the world wide web, despite the fact that my vocation is as old as time.
At the marrow, there’s a Catch 22.
Social media derails and detracts from our Slow Lives, yet we depend on it to support our Slow Work. No social media, no Slow Work. Too much social media, no Slow Life. No Slow Life, the Slow Work unravels, charade.
And around we go. Hooked.
I see you out there, women building amazing businesses, mothering children, creating a home, contributing in your community, nourishing your spirit . . . And I hear how conflicted you feel.
I know I’m not the only one.

Today we’re going to take a practical look at how to actually DO social media within a Slow Business framework.
We’re going to tuck into some of the following questions:
💵 How do we assess the cost versus the benefits of using social media for both our business and our own well-being?
💌 Is there a way to engage with our customers without being a slave to social media?
🪖 If we are going to dive in, how can we do so while protecting our Slow life and our core values?
Just like there is no one right way to ‘do’ Slow Living, there is no right or wrong answers here.
This is simply what I’ve learned from over a decade of building a successful, six-figure business rooted in Slow Values ( part-time, from home, while a full-time, hands-on Mama to two young kids and a farm full of mischievous critters. )
Take what speaks to you and leave the rest to the rest.
Here we go.
