This past week here on Substack, I’ve had an interesting lesson in serendipity.
In just six days, my subscriber count has soared from 434 to 755, and counting.
It got me thinking about growth, hustle culture and the stories we tell ourselves about how it all works.
I’m particularly curious about our collective habit in business of rewriting our business history in order to fit a favoured story-arc or align it with our cultural beliefs about business, work and success.
I wonder if, in doing so, we’ve erased the truth of the magic that makes charts like the one above possible?
Instead of spinning a yarn about how I intentionally made this spectacular spike happen, let’s look at the truth about how I suddenly saw such explosive growth.
